With Hanging Bridges and Coffee + Chocolate Tour
Monteverde Expedition takes you to discover the Monteverde Cloud Forest from a different perspective, taking you up to explore the treetops, a hardly discovered habitat called the “canopy,” with our naturalist guide. Later, our Monteverde Expedition will take you to the Coffee and Chocolate plantation where you will learn the entire process from the see to your mouth.
The Monteverde Hanging Bridges takes you by a network of hanging bridges and walkways that winds through the Monteverde Cloud Forest. You will enjoy stunning views of the treetops and the surrounding mountains from there.
The Monteverde Hanging Bridges take around 2.5 hours to complete. It is a moderate hike, but the bridges are sturdy and safe. There are five bridges in total, with a range in length from 20 to 100 meters, the longest of which spans around 984 feet, and the highest is 60 meters above the ground. The trails extend slightly over a mile and a half (2.5 km), making this tour feasible for anyone in moderate shape.
Once we finish the hanging bridge experience, we continue with the second part of the Monteverde Expedition. You will visit the coffee plantation and learn about growing, harvesting, and processing coffee beans. You will also have the opportunity to taste some delicious Costa Rican coffee.
You will get to see the way the pulp of the coffee cherry was traditionally removed, the washing process of the mucilage found underneath the pulp, and the separation of the first-class coffee beans from the rest.
As well you will see how the coffee beans are stored in big fiber sacks in the warehouse, allowing them to breathe and complete their aging process. The selection of coffee beans, the roasting process, and the final packaging of the coffee are also carried out here.
Later you will visit the chocolate house and learn about the process of making chocolate from cacao beans. You will also get to taste some of the delicious chocolate made in Monteverde.
You will also learn about sugar cane and the typical way to extract juice to produce sugar. On returning to the main building, you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee and a typical Costa Rican snack.
